Embarrassment
Embarrassment is the uncomfortable feeling you get when you think you’ve made a mistake or looked silly in front of others. It’s a mild, social “ouch” feeling that usually makes you want to hide, laugh it off, or change the subject.
What embarrassment feels like
Embarrassment is feeling foolish or exposed, like when you trip in public, forget someone’s name, or say something awkward and notice others saw it. Common signs include blushing, nervous laughter, wanting to look away, or suddenly not knowing what to say.
What usually causes embarrassment
Embarrassment often happens when a person thinks they have broken a social rule, drawn unwanted attention, or been shown up as clumsy, unprepared, or forgetful. These moments are usually small and pass quickly, and many people later find them funny once the strong feeling has faded.
