noradrenaline, also known as norepinephrine, is a hormone and a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in the body’s fight-or-flight response to stress. It is produced by the adrenal glands and by some nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It helps increase alertness, arousal, attention, heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose and blood flow to the muscles. Furthermore, it also affects mood, memory and sleep-wake cycle. noradrenaline is broken down by enzymes or taken back into nerve cells after its action.
