Mundus imaginalis is a Latin term coined by French philosopher Henry Corbin to describe an ontologically real, intermediate spiritual realm situated between the physical world of sensory perception and the abstract world of intellectual concepts. It is not a place of unreal fantasy or “the imaginary,” but an objective dimension of visionary knowledge, symbols, and archetypes perceived through active imagination.
James Hillman’s archetypal psychology presents the psyche as fundamentally plural, or or of multiple minds. Human beings do not possess only one psychological voice, value system or centre of intelligence.
Objectivity, in this landscape, usually means not a “view from nowhere,” but “as independent of any one person’s quirks as we can practically make it.”
