Eleanor Roosevelt was a prominent American political figure, diplomat and activist. She was the wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, and served as the first lady from 1933 to 1945. She was also a niece of Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States. She played a key role in advancing human and women’s rights, both nationally and internationally. She was the first U.S. delegate to the United Nations and the first chair of the UN Commission on Human Rights. She also wrote a syndicated column called “My Day” and held press conferences to communicate with the public.
