Visualization meditation can facilitate self-transcendence and finding true-self by using the power of the imagination to access the unconscious mind, which is the source of intuition, wisdom, and potential. By visualizing scenarios that evoke positive emotions, such as love, joy, gratitude, or peace, one can cultivate a sense of connection with oneself and others. Therefore, by visualizing oneself as one wishes to be, one can align one’s actions with one’s values and aspirations. By visualizing oneself in different situations or perspectives, one can expand one’s awareness and empathy.

Visualization meditation is a simple but effective way to tap into the resources of the mind and the heart. By practising it regularly, one can foster a sense of self-transcendence and find one’s true-self.

Here are some steps to practice visualization meditation:

Find a comfortable and quiet place where you can sit or lie down without distractions. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths to relax your body and mind.

  1. Choose a scene that you want to visualize. It can be a place that you have visited before, a place that you want to visit, or a place that you create in your mind. Make sure it is something that makes you feel happy, calm, and peaceful.
  2. Start to imagine the scene in as much detail as possible. Use all your senses to make it more vivid and realistic. What do you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel? For example, if you are visualizing a beach, you can see the blue sky and the ocean waves, hear the seagulls and the wind, smell the saltwater and the sand, taste the coconut water and the fruit, and feel the sun and the breeze on your skin.
  3. Stay with the scene for as long as you want. You can also add some affirmations or positive statements to enhance your experience. For example, you can say to yourself: “I am relaxed and happy”, “I am grateful for this moment”, “I am confident and capable”, etc.
  4. When you are ready to end the meditation, gently bring your attention back to your breathing and your body. Slowly open your eyes and stretch your muscles. Notice how you feel after the meditation. You can also write down your experience in a journal or share it with someone else.
