Marsha Linehan is a renowned American psychologist and author who developed dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), a type of psychotherapy that helps people with borderline personality disorder and other mental health problems. Linehan was inspired by her own experience of struggling with suicidal behaviour and being misdiagnosed with schizophrenia as a teenager. She later discovered that she had borderline personality disorder and used her knowledge of cognitive-behavioural therapy, Zen meditation, and acceptance to create DBT. Linehan is an Emeritus Professor of Psychology at the University of Washington and has published several books on DBT and related topics.
